The last time my husband and I were in NYC, it was the weekend before Christmas in 2010. We rode into Central Park in a horse-drawn carriage as high school sweethearts and walked out of the park an engaged couple. People always ask me if I knew he was going to propose, and I try to say no, but I think girls are born with an inkling for those type of things :)

Fast forward a few years– past our engagement session, past our wedding– and I’m realizing a few things… (1) We’re starting to look a little young in our engagement photos, which were taken back in 2011, and (2) As much as I’m still over-the-moon, crazy in love with our wedding photos (and always will be)… there are only so many that you can hang up on the wall (which is a lot in our case). So I got thinking about Corey & I getting some updated photos– a session of us as a married couple. I realized how much I treasure the photos that Corey’s friend was able to capture from sneakily hiding when he proposed, and knew that a session at Christmastime in NYC would be perfect. I had admired Abby Grace Photography’s work & blog for a while, then when I got the opportunity to meet Abby at her workshop earlier in the summer I knew she would be the perfect one to ask. When we she said she was available the weekend before Christmas I was SO excited! (… And cue the 3 months of shopping & trying on a million clothes, shoes, jacket & jewelry to find the perfect outfits)

It had been 3 years since Corey had proposed on the Gapstow Bridge in Central Park, yet when we went back it felt like no time had passed at all. It was freakishly warm that weekend (like in the 60s… but I wasn’t complaining!) so I didn’t have to worry about my feet freezing off. It was such a great experience as a photographer to get back in front of the lens to remember what it feels like to be photographed, but more importantly it was such a great time with Corey to just relax and hug & kiss my unbelievably handsome husband. Abby made us feel so at ease and worked those thick NYC crowds like nobody’s business. She captured so many photos that we love and that we can’t wait to have in our home. As I was going through our PASS gallery, I had to remind myself that they couldn’t all be my favorite. But they were. Thanks so much to Abby & her husband, Matt, for a great time in NYC!

Here are a few (and by few I mean a lot) of my favorites from our session in NYC. You can see Abby’s blog post about our session here. To any couple considering an anniversary session, I can’t recommend it enough. I think somewhere between getting married & having your first child, we forget to document how wonderful it is to be young & married. Love deserves to be documented not only on your wedding day, but years beyond too as your love grows deeper for each other. Thanks so much to Abby for capturing that for Corey & I.
