This was the type of session that couldn’t have gone any better. The locations, the weather, the couple, the wardrobe… all of it aligned perfectly. As I was on the plane headed to Chicago for Kate & Trever’s engagement session, I felt anxious, excited, and a little unsure what was ahead. I had never been to Chicago, and let me say… it did not disappoint! I think Chicago has taken the new title for my favorite city (sorry Boston). It is absolutely gorgeous with tons of different types of scenery… as you’ll see from our session, we walked ALL over the place! Of all the amazing locations, I think it was photographing at the famous Chicago Riverwalk at sunset that really stole my heart.
I have known Kate basically my whole life. We grew up just a few minutes away from each other in Hancock, Maine and she was always good friends with my older brother, Duncan. Fast forward 20-some years and now Kate & Trever are living in Chicago and are planning a coastal Maine wedding for 2015. When talking about engagement locations, we decided that since their wedding was in Maine, their engagement session would be a great opportunity to capture them in the city they now call home. And I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to visit a city I’d never been to!
I absolutely LOVE photographing in new places and am so excited to see where the next destination session will take me :) A big shout out to my Hallmark gal pal, Aubrey Bechler, for assisting me on the session… couldn’t have done it without you!
We started right outside of Kate & Trever’s apartment and of course had to include their adorable dog, Matilda, in a few!
We were just shooting on the street along a cool looking wall, then a couple who lived there asked if we would like to come and take pictures in their courtyard… Check out this GORGEOUS hidden gem of Chicago!
It never disappoints when couples scope out their own locations they love… This amazing gallery wall was inside Hotel Lincoln!
